Have you ever dreamed of running away to the beach and never coming back? Well, that is exactly what my husband and I did a couple of years ago. After growing up on opposite ends of the country (My husband in Connecticut, and me in Texas), and living in several different states along the way, we were looking for a place to settle and live that would offer us all of the things we wanted out of life….relaxation, scenery, things to do, and closer to the beach.
After much arguing and yelling philosophical debating, we chose Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Myrtle Beach is located right on the Atlantic coastline and is considered the heart of a 60-mile stretch of uninterrupted beaches known as the Grand Strand. After more arguing and yelling soul-searching about types of housing and specific locations, we finally agreed on a home that we both loved about 5 miles from the beach, and we couldn’t be happier. We packed up our belongings and headed east…and we have never looked back.
There is nothing quite like the freedom of being able to go to the beach anytime you want…listening to the roar of the surf pounding against the sand, tossing seashells and ocean treasures up into our reach as we stroll along the shoreline.
I love the sound of the shorebirds as they fly over and run across the sand all around us…seagulls and sandpipers combing the beach for tidbits. The majestic pelicans flying overhead are a sight to behold…like airplanes soaring through the sunlit sky and then swooping into the water for the day’s catch.
Although there are a million activities to choose from in this area, we enjoy beachcombing the very best. It is so relaxing to simply stroll along the beach and look for the wonderful treasures that nature has to offer. Each tide washes in an ever-changing array of beautiful seashells, corals, ocean sponges, sea glass and even shark teeth. It is like a brand new scavenger hunt each time we go. Of course, I love coming up with ways to use these extraordinary finds to decorate our home, and I also love sharing those ideas with you. The next time you are dreaming of the sea, and wishing you could just run away from everything….pack a bag and do it! Life is too short to miss out on all the wonderful things you want to do. I promise you will never regret it. The fabulous scenery, the remarkable sea creatures, the feel of the warm sand beneath your feet….it is hard to imagine anything more peaceful than living the salt life.
